Today, we invited a guest from Mu Performing Arts to lead us in a theatre workshop and preface the play we will see next week called "Middle Brother" written and directed by local actor and director Eric Sharp. This play is about a Korean adoptee embarking on a physical and emotional journey to discover his birth family. As part of the Links program, T2C partners with Mu Performing Arts, the local Pan-Asian American theatre company. The purpose of this partnership is to allow local communities to engage in discussion on stories that empower the Asian American experience and present it under an authentic light. In our workshop, a Mu teaching artist led us in theatre exercises and activities. We also performed a scene from "Middle Brother" and talked about the shared experience of being Asian in America. We acted out portrayals we see on media of Asians and discussed our thoughts on experiences we all have in common. The Mu artist also informed the girls that theatre should not be seen as an elitist activity and that we all have the power to create artistic work. Stay tuned for a video on this workshop!
